FAQ

I highly recommend reading the official SlimeVR Docs!

Q: Do trackers need a base station or camera?
A: No, SlimeVR builds a “skeleton” with your proportions, and moves it in real time with inertial measurement units (IMUs).

Q: How long does the battery last?
A: Approximately 8 hours on a full charge. Due to safety/battery health, trackers ship only halfway charged!

Q: What’s the range of the trackers?
A: Same coverage as your WiFi.

Q: How precise are the trackers?
A: 1-10cm precision, with ~15ms latency and 360° coverage. Precision depends on number of trackers, plane used for measurement, and how your back bends. Most users will achieve less than 5cm precision.

Q: What platforms are compatible?
A: All headsets that are compatible with SteamVR, including the Meta Quest 2/3. Other applications including PC games, streaming VR apps, VTubing (via Tracking World), and SteamVR games (including games using the Shadow platform).

Q: How do the trackers connect?
A: The trackers connect over WiFi. You will need to either broadcast a network from your computer (doesn’t need to be a good computer, even phones are compatible) or connect your tracker to your regular WiFi network.

Q: How do I wear them?
A: Use the provided reverse buckle velcro straps to secure them at your waist, chest, thighs (above the knee), ankles, and feet. Generally, you want all the trackers facing forwards & up.

Q: How do I set them up?
A: You’ll need to connect the trackers to your WiFi, add them to the SlimeVR app on your computer/phone, and perform an short initial calibration and mounting setup. As the IMUs are sensitive to the heat they generate, it’s recommended to play for an hour until their temperature peaks, then perform a long calibration. After the initial setup, just put them on, use the mounting wizard (less than 30 seconds), and play!

Q: How many do I need?
A: Refer to the table below for an explanation of what can be tracked with N amount of trackers. In short; minimum 5-6, maximum 10.

  1. Adding a chest tracker allows SlimeVR to improve spine tracking a LOT, resulting in much better precision while setting/bending/posing. ↩︎
  2. It’s possible to forgo foot rotation to gain elbow position & rotation. ↩︎

Q: What is version 0 of the bwunny tracker?
A: The initial run of bwunny trackers will feature pogo-pins for charging and limited customization options. Performance wise, they will be identical to future iterations.
A: The pogo pin design has been scrapped due to production issues and general poor design.

Q: Why use ABS?
A: I’ve tried using PLA+ for my own personal trackers and found that they tended to wear out whenever flexing. I upgraded my setup to be able to print in ABS for firmer and stronger cases and mounts. However, this does mean that not all the prints come out perfectly unblemished. There may be small marks or lines on larger surfaces due to the nature of printing at higher temps.
